I recently purchased this book for a dear friend of mine, who is contemplating weight loss surgery in 2015. I initially wanted to have Dr. Alvarez do my surgery but for a variety of reasons, I went with Dr. Ariel Ortiz instead in Tijuana. Regardless, this is a must read and a great book for anyone contemplating weight loss surgery. Also a great review and a good "go-to" guide for those of us who have recently had surgery, this second edition is nearly identical to the first edition, a bit simplified, I think.I will be two years post-gastric sleeve in April 2015 and I am doing very very well. While I think the hard-copy book is a bit pricey (I bought the Kindle Edition for myself in 2013), the information and basic guidelines in this book are a must read. When I read through this book prior to gifting it to my friend for Christmas, I felt as though I was reading a book written for a Sixth Grader. But again...I am nearly 2 years post-gastric sleeve. I remember how frightened I was prior to surgery. This book answered many of my mundane and rudimentary questions back in 2013. While speaking with Dr. Ortiz's office and while interacting on a few of the many Online Weight Loss Surgery Websites back in 2012 and 2013, this book is continually recommended and considered an "easy read" or the "easy read Bible" for anyone planning bariatric weight loss surgery, especially The Gastric Sleeve.
This book is a very easy read with all the basic information one might need when contemplating weight loss surgery. You can likely read this book in under one hour. Solid information about pre-surgery concerns, expectations before, during and after surgery and frequently asked questions for those who have undergone surgery. And ALWAYS, Dr. Alvarez is a rock-star...he is the BEST! A nice man, a caring physician...I'd have surgery done (again) in Mexico by either Dr. Alvarez or Dr. Ariel Ortiz in a heart-beat. This helped me to understand some of the basics in the process of deciding whether or not to have the gastric sleeve surgery. It was relatively short but contained the best concentration of correct information that I could find for a good price.
Was not very impressed with the soft paperback quality and large font. It was a very quick read with numerous grammar problems. Someone really should have proofread the script before it was mass printed. I was expected more for the price.
Love the book and Dr A's you tube videos. Very helpful.
Book is very detailed of what to do pre-op and post-op and even on how to make a decision to have the surgery or not. My only complaint - Dr. Alvarez's staff gives you a book before you depart, following surgery. I had already bought one.
I purchased this book as a reference guide for our family to help us navigate the course of Gastric Sleeve Surgery in May 2015, and continue to rely on the advice given. We all felt better prepared for the changes after having read Dr. Alvarez's book, which is down to earth advice.
This book has useful information. Not too detailed but just enough to get you started. I would recommend supplementing this book with another if yo really want to know the ins and outs of the surgery. This was simple enough to get me started but I wanted a little bit more substance so I also purchased the Ultimate Gastric Sleeve Success book. So glad I did! Both are good books.
This book is full of knowledge about the gastric sleeve surgery. I am so very thankful I purchased this book as my VSG bible. Thank you Dr. Alvarez for writing such a great book. When I purchased the book I was preop and now I am 18 months post op after having surgery with you. Best choice I could ever make for me and my family! 160+ pounds gone forever!
